On 1 September I joined hundreds of community members to remember the lives of Alina Kauffman and Ernesto Salazar and mark one year since their tragic passings. The outpouring of community support for Alina and Ernesto's mother, Angelina Kauffman, was a reflection of how deeply they have touched our hearts. Motorcycle riders from all over Sydney, Canberra and regional New South Wales volunteered to ride adorned with blue and purple balloons down Sadleir Avenue in Heckenberg, where Alina and Ernesto lost their lives, to remember Ernesto's love for motorbikes and celebrate their favourite colours. The memorial bench bearing Ernesto and Alina's names, which I organised through Liverpool City Council, overlooks the scene. A fruit tree, which will hopefully help young people in the community, was planted in their names. Alina and Ernesto's loved ones and community miss them and will always remember them. Rest in peace.
