Treehouse Theatre

Stories have extraordinary power to change lives, perspectives and communities. For this reason, it was a privilege to see students from Miller Technology High School perform at the Seymour Centre as part of Treehouse Theatre. Treehouse Theatre seeks to tell the personal stories of young refugees, which are recorded verbatim and written up into scripts by Treehouse directors. The scripts are workshopped with students and rehearsed in a safe and happy environment, and are then performed in front of a theatre audience. Eliciting a variety of emotions, the "Why Us?" performance by Miller Technology High students made for a touching insight into the devastating impact of war on some of our young community members. I laud the tremendous courage of the 11 students who participated in the performance, and I extend my sincere congratulations to Miller Technology High School, George Rosier, Ken Edge and the theatre's directors and volunteers.
