I recently attended the Sydmal Carnival 2023 in Liverpool, organised by the Sydney Malayalee Association. Founded 45 years ago, the Sydney Malayalee Association seeks to nurture and promote the rich culture and heritage of the Malayalee diaspora in Sydney and support those in Kerala. Held at Woodward Park in Liverpool, the carnival brought together Sydney's Malayalee community and a variety of other cultural groups, and was attended by over 1,600 people, The carnival featured fabulous displays from music and dance to fashion and magic shows, including a grand cultural diversity display, showing various acts from India, Cambodia, China and Afghanistan. Topping off the celebration, I thoroughly enjoyed the outstanding Bollywood fusion dance that was choreographed by Meera Joy. I thank President Beena Ravikumar, the entire executive for their sustained involvement with the Sydney Malayalee Association, and all the attendees who supported the Sydmal Carnival 2023. I look forward to their Onam celebration later this year.
