The 22nd of May marked the feast of St Rita, who was bestowed the title 'Patroness of Impossible Causes' at her canonisation ceremony. She is known for supporting those in their time of need, no matter how hopeless it seems. This year's celebration was particularly special, marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of St Rita's Melkite Catholic Parish in Ashcroft. Located on the corner of Elizabeth Drive and Maxwells Avenue, St Rita's is a gathering place for many who practice the Melkite faith, and the parish community put on their best annual fete yet to mark the occasion! The fete included rides, entertainment and food stalls and brought so many from across the community together, despite the chilly and windy weather! I was also privileged be invited to attend a special mass with His Grace Bishop Robert Rabbat to mark the Novena of St Rita. My sincerest thanks to Rev Fr Fady Salameh and Rev Fr Antonios Chaouki Ibrahim for their stewardship of St Rita's Parish and for their dedication to the local community in Ashcroft. I look forward to seeing St Rita's continue to flourish in the years to come.
