Although St Luke's in Liverpool is not the oldest Serbian Orthodox Church, it is one of the fastest growing congregations. This was very obvious when I recently attended a special mass at St Luke's, known as Sveti Luka in Serbian, being the feast day of St John the Baptist. The congregation was made up of young families, older people and everyone in between! Located on Flowerdale Road, St Luke's has been developed from a modest building to a grand marvel in our suburban streets. The beautiful bell tower and gorgeous iconography are typical of Serbian architecture, although I understand there is much more planned! It is fitting that Sveti Luka is known as the first iconographer of the Church. I was treated to a lovely morning tea courtesy of the congregation at St Luke's. The dishes reflected the fact it was a feast day – although I was offered a shot of plum brandy as is custom! Thank you to Father Aleksandar, Michael Andjelkovic, and the St Luke's community for welcoming me into the Church for mass and morning tea. I look forward to joining you for more occasions in the near future.
