I recently had the pleasure of attending the official opening of the new building at St Francis Xavier's Primary School in Lurnea, a significant milestone in the history of this much-loved local school. Established in 1975 and officially opened by Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, St Francis Xavier's began with just 22 students in a single composite class. Today, it is a thriving school community of almost 400 students, continuing its mission of faith, service and educational excellence. The new building was made possible through approximately $4.5 million in funding from the NSW Government's Building Grants Assistance Scheme. The project has delivered modern learning spaces, new administration and staff facilities, improved accessibility, student amenities and refurbished communal areas, ensuring students and staff have facilities that meet the needs of a growing school community. It was particularly special to see some of the school's original students in attendance at the opening ceremony, reflecting on how far the school has come since its earliest days. I congratulate the students, staff, families, parish and wider school community on this wonderful achievement and wish them every success for the future.
