Liverpool is home to one of the largest Serbian communities in Australia, and we are deeply proud of that. It was wonderful to join the community for the gala night of the thirty-sixth annual Serbian Folkloric Festival. First celebrated in 1987, the festival was the first of its kind in Australia, providing a platform for Serbian food, culture and dance to take centre stage and be shared with our broader community. I was particularly excited to see Ivana Ilic of Australian Idol fame perform. I know that the Serbian community in Australia is deeply proud of her. Of course, it is not a party without dancing. I got to try my hand at traditional Serbian dancing, although I may need a touch more practice. As usual, Bonnyrigg Sports Club in Bonnyrigg Heights played host to the festival. Bonnyrigg Sports Club is the unofficial home of Sydney's Serbian community and has been instrumental in sustaining Serbian culture in our diaspora community. I was so excited to present the club with its cheque for a Community Building Partnership grant to go towards renovations and upgrades of amenities.
