Seini Afeaki was recently named a community hero finalist at the 2024 NSW Women of the Year Awards. Seini is a former commissioner of the New South Wales Community Relations Commission and chair of the Western Sydney Migrant Resource Centre in Liverpool. Seini helped to establish community organisations, including Tongan community support services, and spearheaded the Pacific Mental Health Initiative at CORE Group, which researches mental health in Pasifika communities and employs four Pasifika mental health educators. More recently, Seini has been involved in the partnership between the Pacific Women's Professional and Business Network and TAFE NSW to encourage Pasifika women to try construction trades, breaking down stereotypes and changing lives. I extend my sincere appreciation for Seini's many years of leadership and commitment to south-west Sydney and I congratulate all the women recognised in this year's Women of the Year Awards.
