I am often struck by the extraordinary people that are the backbone of my community. One of these is Rita Edge – a mother, wife, and teacher from Cecil Hills . She is also a beacon of strength, resilience and creativity as she navigates cancer diagnosis and treatment. While her diagnosis may have forced Rita into retirement, she has channelled her energy into a project that both sustains her spirit and fuels her fight against cancer. I first came across Rita's work while visiting Mili & Co cafe at Cecil Hills Shopping Village. Prominently featured on the wall was a collection of pieces by Rita that were for sale. I was fortunate enough to purchase two pieces by Rita that caught my eye. Making use of her boundless creativity for a very worthy cause, Rita has invited community members to bring beauty into their lives while also supporting her through her vital cancer treatment. Her artworks are on sale via her website, as well as at Mili & Co. I recognise Rita's remarkable strength on this journey and invite Liverpool residents to stand in solidarity with her as she confronts cancer head on.
