Volunteers are the lifeblood of our community and contribute about $178 billion to the NSW economy, so it is fitting that we recognise and celebrate the people that give their time to support a diverse range of causes and organisations. The Western Sydney Regional Ceremony for the NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards, organised by The Centre for Volunteering, held at Liverpool Catholic Club, was an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of people in my community that devote themselves to the service of others. The ceremony was one of 25 regional award ceremonies held across NSW, which bring together our state's extraordinary volunteers and their families. I acknowledge the work of the many award winners in Liverpool, who have demonstrated their tremendous commitment in areas from creatively engaging men in residential aged care, providing essential JP services, to first aid emergency care. It is particularly heartening to see the number of young award nominees and winners, as they will ensure that a culture of volunteerism and service will continue long into the future. I commend the Centre for Volunteering and the award sponsors, for recognising extraordinary people in our community.
