As Australians cheer on our boys in green and gold, I recognise one Socceroo in particular, Miloš Degenek, whose journey from south‑west Sydney to the world stage is one our community can be incredibly proud of. With the 2026 FIFA World Cup underway, Australians are turning up at all hours of the day and night to get behind our team. This tournament marks the third time Miloš has been selected for the Australian squad, which is a remarkable achievement, and a testament to his talent and determination. Born during the conflict in the former Yugoslavia, Miloš and his family were forced to flee their home before eventually settling in Australia in search of a better future. Miloš attended Marsden Road Public School and Westfields Sports High School. He played some of his junior football with the Bonnyrigg White Eagles, which is a club with strong ties to the south‑west Sydney Serbian community. What started on the football fields of our neighbourhood has taken Miloš all the way to football's biggest stage. As the Socceroos continue their World Cup campaign, Liverpool will be proudly cheering them on. We are so proud of Miloš.
