There are not many organisations that can claim the longevity of Liverpool City Brass Band, which has served the Liverpool community for over 140 years. The band was founded in 1883 as the Liverpool Brass Band, after a small donation was given to a group of young men seeking to entertain the people of Liverpool. Since then, the band has gone through various iterations, until it was officially named the Liverpool City Brass Band in 1961. The Band is frequently visible across Liverpool, playing and ANZAC and Remembrance Day Commemorations, Christmas events, Bunnings Barbecues and local events. I recently attended one of the Band's rehearsal days, where I had the opportunity to meet members of the band and listen to them perform. I note that the Band is always looking for new members and is willing to support musicians of all abilities. Until 1962, the band did not have a permanent home when the current band hall was opened in Woodward Park, off Memorial Avenue. The hall has been the home of the City Band ever since. I extend my thanks to band president Amanda Crnkovic and all band members for their warm hospitality.
