Last month I attended the launch of the twenty-fifth annual Liverpool Art Society exhibition at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre—a remarkable milestone, I am sure members will agree. Initially convening as an informal art group in the 1970s, the Liverpool Art Society was officially formed in 1997 and has grown into an active community organisation with over 230 members. Since 1998 the society has held an annual exhibition at the arts centre. The exhibition seeks to honour my region's creative talents across a variety of mediums, including painting, ceramics, drawing, mixed media, photography and sculpture. I congratulate winners Fangmin Wu, Shazia Fazal, John Wang, Svetlana Panov and Rashid Abuzarov. I also acknowledge Valerie Colvin, who launched her exhibitionLotus Pond on the day. I extend my thanks to exhibition coordinators Chris Hunter and Anne Picalovski, who generously gave up their time. I also acknowledge all those who submitted their works for entry.
