For the past month, anyone who visited the Liverpool electorate office was welcomed by the delightful works of Fangmin "Jack" Wu. Jack is a Sydney-based artist who emigrated from China to Australia in 1990 and held his first solo art exhibition in 1997. A common inspiration for Jack's pieces is the Australian countryside. He hopes that his landscapes are more than just a reproduction of nature but works with personality, passion and a new perspective. When I was elected, I believed the electorate office should reflect the wonderful community I have the honour of representing and be a warm and comfortable space for all those who visit. I also wanted to disrupt the stereotype that Western Sydney does not appreciate or value art. I have partnered with Liverpool Art Society to host a rotating art gallery in my office foyer. Local artists and talent are spotlighted for all residents and visitors who stop by. Jack's work does exactly that. I thank Jack for generously allowing me to be the custodian of his work and acknowledge Chris Hunter and Liverpool Art Society for working with me to realise this important initiative.
