On a sweltering Saturday just before Christmas, I had the pleasure of joining the Australian Air Force Cadets 309 Squadron for their end of year parade at Holsworthy Barracks. The organisation facilitates the development of strong leadership skills and provides a safe environment for young people interested in pursuing a career in aviation or a life of service in the Royal Australian Air Force. The parade was a fitting celebration of Flight Lieutenant Rod Hobson's last as commanding officer of the 309 Squadron. I acknowledge Keerthi Ganapathy, who was named Cadet of the Year. I also acknowledge all of the other cadets, officers and volunteers for fostering such a positive and safe environment of comradery and discipline. The cadets of the 309 Squadron frequently volunteer their time for community events such as the Liverpool RSL Remembrance Day ceremony. I have seen the incredible talent they offer and know that, in service of our community and the squadron, the sky is the limit. They broaden the horizons of young people across our community.
