Social connection is so important in today's world, increasingly so when people transition into retirement. Workplace friendships can be lost and finding new modes of connection can take time. Probus Clubs are vital local initiatives that allow seniors and retirees to open doors to new experiences and friendships. They offer a range of activities including trips and outings for members, guest speakers, and workshops for over 110,000 retirees across Australia and New Zealand. I was so excited when I met with Probus earlier this year to discuss the establishment of a new Probus Club in Cecil Hills – and last week, I attended a meeting of the club as their inaugural guest speaker! It was great to see that Cecil Hills Probus Club is off to a fantastic start, gaining over 30 members in just 2 months! I had a ball reaching into my training as an occupational therapist to share with members some tips and tricks on staying active and healthy in retirement. Congratulations to all the members of the Club on your enthusiastic support for this initiative and I look forward to working with them to support many in our community.
