I recently attended a celebration of Women in Leadership hosted by the Canterbury Bankstown Chamber of Commerce. The evening was a recognition of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women in south-west Sydney. It was valuable to appreciate the contribution and importance of many local women to south-west Sydney's regional economy through their own contributions as business owners, managers and leaders. A panel discussion featured insightful contributions from speakers across business, government and health, which spoke to a theme of encouraging women to get involved. I want to highlight that one in three small businesses in Australia are now run by women. Between 2006 and 2021, the number of female small business owners increased by 24 percent, more than three times that of their male counterparts. I commend the Canterbury Bankstown Chamber of Commerce for organising the event, with particular thanks to CEO Wally Mehanna, the board of directors and the event sponsors.
