African Womens Dinner Dance

28 November 2023

Last month I attended the African Women's Community Support Group's 2023 Dinner Dance at Liverpool Catholic Club. The annual event brings together women in the African community who live in social isolation. The dance seeks to create an environment where women can share their issues with each other and engage in a thematic discussion. This year's theme, "choose the challenge", was based on that from International Women's Day. The evening featured a number of motivational speakers, along with a fashion parade and performances from different cultures. I was also joined by my colleague, the Member for Granville. It was a delight to participate in the dance, where I had a chance to talk with African women from different walks of life about their unique migrant experiences. I note the particular significance of this given Liverpool's growing African community. I extend my congratulations to Rosemary Kariuki, along with Ola, Franklin, Ida, and all those who put the event together.
