As those of the Islamic faith in Liverpool and throughout New South Wales observe Ramadan, it was a pleasure to attend the Affinity Intercultural Foundation's sixteenth New South Wales Parliament Friendship and Dialogue Iftar Dinner. Iftar is the evening meal with which Muslims break their fast. It is a time for reflection, gratitude and connection. Beyond the spiritual significance, iftar celebrates compassion and inclusivity, strengthening the bonds of friendship and harmony across communities, reflecting the importance of hospitality in the teachings of the Koran. Affinity embodies that spirit fully. One of the ways it does that is through its home iftar initiative, whereby local Islamic families open their homes to members of the community to break fast with them and teach them more about the Islamic faith. I look forward to joining Yunus and Gulsen Yeniturk to break fast later this month. I thank the team at Affinity, led by executive director Ahmet Polat—cousin Ahmet—for their ongoing dedication to connecting members of the community. Eid Mubarak.
