Colombia footballers were welcomed to Liverpool at an official ceremony at Mercure Liverpool on 12 July 2023.

The team is based at Liverpool during the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 and will train at Liverpool during the tournament.

The Welcome Ceremony featured a Welcome to Country from local elders as well as official welcomes by the Member for Liverpool Charishma Kaliyanda.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup will be held from 20 July - 20 August and see 32 teams compete over 64 matches, including 11 games in Sydney at Sydney Football Stadium and Stadium Australia that includes the Final on August 20.

Colombia has been drawn in Group H against Germany, Morocco, Korea Republic with their first game on 25 July 2023 against Korea Republic at Sydney Football Stadium.

Member for Liverpool Charishma Kaliyanda MP said:

 “The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 will see the world's best players compete for the greatest prize in women’s football.

Liverpool football fans will witness the highs, lows, thrills, and excitement of the tournament on home soil.

It was fantastic to welcome the Colombia women’s football team to Liverpool.

“I wish them the best at the tournament and urge all Liverpool residents to adopt the side as their second team.”

NSW Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said: 

 “The FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 is an opportunity for communities across NSW to unite in their love of football and celebrate the tournament coming to our shores.

“The tournament will inspire the next generation to play at the highest level and follow in the footsteps of Sam Kerr, Megan Rapinoe, and Marta.

“Not only that, it will also be a significant step in our journey to increase the profile and participation of women in sport. 

“I urge anyone that has not yet purchased the tickets to do so.”
